Silence is Golden

Well, I've been quiet, that's all I can say. I know, I know, I'm a journalist, so I should be writing, like, all the time right? And frankly, I write these entries in my head pretty much every day, but I never buckle down and actually write them. So look at me now, procrastinating as usual on a Sunday night, playing catchup with this blog that has sat gathering dust for the past MONTH.

And on that note, can you believe I've been here for four whole weeks?? It was at this time exactly one month ago that I took off for London, and I haven't looked back since. It was great to spend the first few days in Central London, getting acquainted with the city that would become our home and the people that would become our friends - our little taste of America if we ever did miss it.

My weekend in the British countryside in Chertsey was not all that I expected. It was great to live with and meet a proper British family, having a taste of true British food like I probably will never again experience. But the nightlife was non-existent, and the situation was somewhat forced. I mean, the family was gracious to put us up and all, but at times it felt like a job for them - not genuine. In any case, it was a good experience to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city, something I will likely come to appreciate more in the coming weeks...as the National Rail train speeds by not 20 feet from my window, an ambulance speeds by on New Cross Road, and the maid clamors around and shouts on the phone every morning, I'm quite sure the countryside will be a nice respite in the future.

But anyway - the magic truly happened when we arrived at Goldsmiths three very, very long weeks ago. Thinking back, it truly does seem like I've been here for months...despite the fact that I did my first load of laundry just a couple of hours ago. There is certainly more to come regarding the amazing people and sights of the past few weeks. Stay tuned!
